Teaching and political conflict in La Jolla

UC San Diego was another American teaching base for Herbert Marcuse . A March 31,1964 letter from Leo Löwenthal shows the philosophy department seeking advice about bringing him onto the faculty. Student William Leiss's record documents a Marcuse graduate seminar in 1966–67. (pp.210–211) [1] (pp.1–2) [2]

Angela Davis returned from Frankfurt in 1967 to study with him. The campus also faced conflict over radical teaching. (p.xi) [3] (pp.119–120) [3]
