Close reading and social change

Leiss describes a twenty-week graduate seminar on Hegel's Science of Logic. It met for three hours each week in Fall 1966 and Winter 1967. He recalled a slow, close reading of the text, with no special focus on Marcuse 's own books. The seminar record helps explain the careful philosophical training behind the campus's better-known political activity. (pp.1–2) [2]

A different kind of college

The student coalition proposed a college serving Black, Chicano and white working-class students. Davis described this goal. (opening college discussion) [4]

The university's history lists demands about revolution, admissions, student power and community recruitment. (pp.2–3) [5]
