Overview

Critical Resistance is an American organizing effort aimed at ending the prison industrial complex. Its September 25–27, 1998 conference at UC Berkeley brought that goal into a shared agenda. Angela Davis was on its organizing committee and later described herself as a co-convener. (cover and printed p.2) [1] (p.xii) [2]

The group's own brochure defines its goal as safe, healthy communities that respond to harm without relying on prisons and policing. It calls that goal abolition. (file p.2, “our vision”) [3]
