Overview

Max Horkheimer led the Institute for Social Research into a broader study of society. He joined philosophy with research on the economy, culture and human behavior. His program helped shape what became known as critical theory. [1], pp. 36–39

An October 1930 contract made him director. His January 24, 1931 opening lecture set out the research program. [1], pp. 36–39
