The Passages
First published in 1983 by Kitchen Table: Women of Color Press Reprinted in 2000 by Rutgers University Press, New Brunswick, New Jersey Copyright © 1983, 2000 by Barbara Smith
{"page": 3}
Read in the copy on the shelf, the Rutgers reprint. Its title page reads 'HOME GIRLS / A Black Feminist Anthology / Edited by / Barbara Smith / Rutgers University Press / New Brunswick, New Jersey, and London', and the copyright page carries the three lines quoted here, followed by 'Originally published: New York : Kitchen Table-Women of Color Press, c1983. With new preface.' and ISBN 0-8135-2753-8. That is the book itself on both halves of what the claim needs: Barbara Smith as editor, and 1983 as the year of first publication by the press she cofounded. The same text is in the corpus at work:wc147d5d218c00f4d, whose corpus record names this same PDF. The scan sets the copyright page as running text; the three line breaks restored here are on the printed page and no word is altered.

- Provenance notes
- The copy the archive reads is the Rutgers University Press reprint, whose copyright page records the 1983 Kitchen Table: Women of Color Press first edition and reads "Copyright (c) 1983, 2000 by Barbara Smith". Cite the reprint, not the 1983 printing, unless someone opens a 1983 copy. The corpus holds the same file at work:wc147d5d218c00f4d. The anthology also reprints the Combahee River Collective Statement at pages 264 to 274 with the editorial note on the name, and its permissions page credits that statement as "copyright (c) 1978 by Zillah Eisenstein, from Capitalist Patriarchy and the Case for Socialist Feminism", which is one side of the 1978 against 1979 question the Capitalist Patriarchy record carries.
