The Passages
little more than liberalism refurbished with some lexical help from Freire (as in words like 'praxis' and 'dialogue') and basically is used to camouflage existing capitalist social relations under a plethora of eirenic proclamations and classroom strategies.
Introduction, p. xxv
Read against the scanned copy on the archive shelf, printed page xxv, PDF page 29, under the running head 'INTRODUCTION XXV'. The scan renders the two em dashes in 'critical pedagogy--his stepchild--has' as single hyphens and they are set as em dashes here; that correction falls outside the quoted span. Inside the span the scan breaks 'capitalist' across a line and that hyphen is closed up. The single quotation marks around 'praxis' and 'dialogue' are the book's own.

- Provenance notes
- Research copy is a scanned, OCR'd PDF of the Rowman and Littlefield first printing, held privately on the archive shelf and never published here. The copyright page reads 'Copyright 2000 by Rowman & Littlefield Publishers, Inc.' and carries LC control number 99-32890. In the marx corpus as work:w1eb2793ad0c14c92, verified through the gateway's /api/works on 2026-08-12. The OCR is readable but imperfect: it prints 'tbe' for 'the' and 'oflabor' for 'of labor' on some pages, and closes up line-break hyphens unevenly. Check any quotation against the page before it ships. Forewords by Joe L. Kincheloe and by Ana Maria Araujo Freire; the Freire foreword is her own writing and is cited as reported, never as documented.
