The Passages
There is, I believe, a certain coherence between the pedagogical stand I have been taking throughout the years and the manner in which I write forewords.
{"offset":0}
Read in the book on the shelf, the 1983 Bergin and Garvey first edition. The copyright page reads 'Copyright 1983 by Bergin & Garvey Publishers, Inc.' and 'First published in 1983 by Bergin & Garvey Publishers, Inc.'; the contents page lists 'FOREWORD/PAULO FREIRE ix'; the foreword itself runs from page ix to page x under the heading 'Foreword' and the byline 'By PAULO FREIRE', and its second paragraph places the writer returning to Brazil after sixteen years of exile. The same front matter is in the corpus at work:wa52b933dd33f492d, offset 0. The scan breaks 'challenging' and 'conviviality' across lines and misreads 'others' as 'ochers'; line-break hyphens are closed up and that one misread is set right against the printed page. Nothing else is altered, and none of it falls inside the quoted span.
