Bettina Aptheker
AKA: Aptheker · Bettina F. Aptheker
The Record
Aptheker is in this record because her life contains no break: she was born into the American Communist Party. In 1964, she was one of the public leaders of the Free Speech Movement at Berkeley. She went on to run the national committee that campaigned for Angela Davis’s acquittal.
She then taught feminist studies at the University of California, Santa Cruz, for nearly forty years. She left the Party in 1981.
