Columbia 1934 role

As Columbia's sociology chair, MacIver wrote Butler on 4 June 1934. He separated immediate housing from unresolved questions of formal affiliation and described the Institute as financially independent.

Limit

His recommendation did not itself bind Columbia or make the Institute a department.
