People at the Institute
Different roles in one institute
Theodor Adorno collaborated with the Institute. Erich Fromm led a study of workers and employees, and Leo Löwenthal worked there as an assistant. Wiggershaus gives these people distinct roles in the Institute’s history.[4] Wiggershaus places Herbert Marcuse with Horkheimer in New York in early July 1934, before the Institute took the Columbia quarters.[3]
These institutional connections tell us who took part. They do not establish that each person held the same position or that later readers adopted it. Their own dossiers can develop those questions as the relevant writing and reception are reviewed.
