Intellectual strata formed with a social group that provide coherence, organization, awareness, and political direction. Gramsci contrasts them with intellectuals who present themselves as autonomous from class history.

Role in the Long Insurgency

This concept is part of the opening intellectual architecture. Later transmission, adoption, and implementation must be established through separate relationship evidence.

Current limits

The prison notebooks are fragmentary and Gramsci's terminology develops across different notes. Avoid reducing the concept to a slogan.
